THE MACKAY SCHOOL YOUTH COURT AWARDS

This year's winners are the following:

1. BEST SOLO PERFORMANCE: Francisco Covarrubias, because he acted like a real teenager.

2. BEST GROUP PERFORMANCE: Sebastián Salazar. That group performed very well.

3. BEST CASE: Martín Whittle. I liked that case, because it seemed real, it's something that can happen to anyone.

4. BEST SENTENCE: Matçías Fuentes. It was a very appropriate and realistic sentence.

5. BEST EVIDENCE: Martín Ljubetic. The video they presented was a very good evidence for the case.

6. BEST SCENERY: Ignacio Ruiz. The satge seemed a real court.

7. BEST OUTFIT: Lucas Landaeta. He was very well characterized.

SELF-EVALUATION: I think I did a good job, in the creation of the play and at the stage.

In a court room

Today we will be checking the trial of Peter, a man who was surprised driving drunk last week. As I just said he was driving drunk, after being in a party, and while he was doing this he crashed into a light post, so he has committed a missdemeanor. The man is accused of damage to public property, driving under the influence of  alcohol and damage to private property, as the light pole fell on top of a house,  receiving a demand from the building owners. The case is being processed in a criminal court, and the witnesses are the same owners of the house affected, and a few people that where driving by.
The arguments presented by the prosecution are that if he did this once, he can do it a second time, and that he has broken the law, so he must accomplish the corresponding penalty. The arguments presented by the defence are that it was the first time he did this, he also said he would pay for the damage done to the house and to the company responsible of the lamp post.
The final sentence was that he must pay the damages produced to both, the company and the home-owners affected, and he also needed to do community work (30 hours). The affected people wasn't happy with the sentence, so they would demand him again, for more money.

Writing Task: Travel Writing

Have you visited New York?? I live there, so I can talk to you about it. The first thing that I can say is that New York is a very cosmopolitan city. You can meet different cultures, and the people here is very nice (although there are of course some phonies). Well, it has a lot of attractions, and I don't know where to start.
You can go to Central Park, it's located in the middle of Manhattan, and you can do a lot of things there, like going to the lagoon to see the ducks, walk around and relax. Inside the park, you can also visit the Central Park Zoo. Near the park you can visit the Museum of Natural History, one of the largest in the world. You can also go to the Empire State, one of the tallest buildings in the world!  During the winter you can go ice skating on the frozen lake of Central Park. Going to the theatres is a very nice activity. You can go to Broadway and see different plays (some better than the other). At night you can visit different clubs and have a drink with your friends, and then walk in the Central Park.
Visit this city in winter is better, because the view of the snow-covered town is very beautiful, the only problem is that it's too cold, and you will have to wear many clothes. It is a perfect city to go with friends and family.

Week summary (29 july-2 august)

1.- I honestly did not have any knowledge of modernism (in art, literature and architecture), so this week's classes helped me understand it better.
2.- This week I've learnt about different aspects of modernism (in architecture, arts and literature), making different presentations about it. We also learnt the definitions of some literary terms, like theme, symbol and motif, in the content of modernism in literature. We also did some activities related to The Catcher in the Rye, and read some chapters of it (12-14).
3.- I need to review modernism, because because they were points that I did not understood very well.

Writing task

Hi Jane

Long time since we saw last time. How are you? hope you are fine. I have bad news: I've been expelled from Pency, because I flunked all the subjects, except English. Now I'm leaving this goddam school, and going to New York, but I'm not going to my home, I'm staying in a cheap hotel till the day I'm supposed to go home.
Any way, Pency wasn't such a great school. They post it like a great school, with horses all around, but I've never seen some goddam horse any where near the school. when it's cold, either you freeze or die of the hot.
one of the subjects I failed was history. I went to talk to my teacher and he told me that life was a game and all. Game my ass. He also read my essay. I have to admit it was a shame, and the worst thing was that I knew it, but I didn't care.
Now that I'm in New York I can go and visit you, and play checkers maybe? I hope we can. I'm going down to the hotel bar for a drink.

See you soon
Holden
